I have made LABS many times using the classic recipe using white rice wash, time and milk. Recently, I found a recipe called LACTO LIFE that uses brown rice wash, and salt. So, From what I know you have to feed your cultures milk in order to select out lactobacillus from everything else that is captured in the rice wash. With this recipe, there is no milk. So, I would like to hear from some more experienced KNF’ers if this can work and how. If your trusting, follow this link. If not, just google “Lacto Life” and the recipe is there.

Salt and brown rice will change the colonies of LAB that colonize the nutrients. The white rice method of Master Cho is designed to catch a broad family of Lacto.

I personally use both forms i believe Master Cho’s is the better of the 2 i use it in so many places the garden the compost i take baths in it use it on rashes and all sorts of great stuff but i do prefer the LactoLife recipe for consumption i just think it tastes better in my juices i also this yr used just a bit of the LactoLife recipe to jump start a pickle brine that made some really good pickles
