one of the main teachings of KNF is to use what is available to you in your area so a substitute can be used for rice to collect IMOs ,what that exact thing is in your area you will need to test out ….since this would be your first IMO collection i recommend getting some rice and following the proper steps so you have a control to compare to …… as for what to look for when picking a substitute we need to look at the properties of the rice and why its used …. rice is a very simple starch ,white rice is used the hulls have been removed so its in its most basic starch form ,when cooked correctly it has a dry texture so the grains do not clump tightly together ,this allows air space between the grains for the fungi ….. if there is a grain you can grow in your area that fits these properties then that is a good one to test and with using a control you will be able to compare if it does as good ,better or worse then rice
one thing i think sometimes is …if the zombie apocalypse started today would i be able to grow food tomorrow… and with the teachings of KNF and Drake the answer is yes ..everything i need to grow food is provided to me by the world just outside my door ,i just have to know how to use it

i believe 4sf. per bird is a minimum. so 16 sf. Carolina Coops has some nice designs, but not sure if they comply with knf standards. Chris Trump on you tube has a video with the knf layout..

yes this is the reason for using a non living vinegar when making Structure (WCAP) and Reproduction (WCA) the microbes in the living vinegar feed on the CA n P …when using homemade vinegars we want to pasteurize it first … just white vinegar can also be used when making Structure and Reproduction we are just looking for the acetic acid in vinegar to properly dissolve the CA n P into the solution …. i love the tests of using other sources of calcium that could be locally acquired and hearing good results KNF is all about giving us the knowledge of how to do it on our own with the things we have available around us

I use fertigation through a hose end sprayer and have calculated the ounce per gallon mix rate per growth formula not sure if this might be what you are looking for or might help you make your own calculations
Soil – 7oz per gal
Leaf – 1oz per gal
Bloom – 5oz per gal
Fruit – 6oz per gal
Harvest – 7oz per gal
Maintenance i spray through a fine mist style sprayer but is mixed at 24ml per gallon
